Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, I´m a recent Journalism graduate from the University of Florida, soon to earn a Communication master's degree from the University of Central Florida.
As the current host of Giro Orlando, a podcast designed by Radio Florida Brazil to cover entertainment in Central Florida, I record, edit and release content weekly to inform Brazilians living in the United States about events happening in the area. Last year, I represented the University of Florida in the 2019 Society of Environmental Journalists' Conference in Colorado, when a group of colleagues and I won third place in the Ray Reece Excellence in Environmental Journalism Student Award. I've also had the opportunity to conduct research on Climate Change impacts and preparedness in Levy County, Florida, as part of the civic scholars' project for the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. From that, Barometer Florida was born. When not writing, I spend my time exploring new places, hiking and cooking, another passion of mine. |
Feature Work:
- During Spring 2020, I joined other 66 students to conduct a research on Climate Change impacts and preparedness at the community level in each one of the 67 Florida counties for the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. I mainly focused on Levy County, where I was able to interview county officials and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Services (IFAS) to collect data. By the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barometer Florida was born, an online portal that explores state regions and give an easy access to information for county residents over time.
- For three months my environmental journalism peers and I worked on Peak Florida, a special reporting series about the impacts of climate change and weakened developments regulations in the state of Florida and possible solutions for such problems. The project won the 2018 best Online In-Depth Reporting Award from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region 3 Mark of Excellence (MOE), third place in the Ray Reece Excellence in Environmental Journalism Student Award from the Society of Environmental Journalism (SEJ), and the Best Multimedia Feature Award in the student division of SPJ's Sunshine State Awards.
My story, Working On Water, talks about ways the city of Cedar Key found to keep its water clean by the elimination of septic tanks and clam farming. What can the rest of us learn from Florida's tiniest fishing village? - Many people in Gainesville tend to forage food for living, but can foraging be a solution to hunger? My colleagues and I visited a couple of farms and sustainable projects around the city to show how people grow their fruits and vegetables. Urban Food: A Solution to Hunger was released in May, 2019.
- In 2018 I had the honor to cover the opening of Toy Story Land, at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios park, for Achei USA Brazilian Newspaper. Read my front page story in Portuguese: Walt Disney World inaugura Toy Story Land em Orlando.
